What is Tao?
The Tao is shown in natural phenomena like the moon orbiting the Earth, the Earth orbiting the sun, and the Earth rotating on its axis. Such phenomena create the cycles of the tides, the seasons, and days and nights.
We can also find the Tao in ourselves, in our conscience and our basic wisdom. True human nature is brilliant, warm and pure, people can cultivate their inherent wisdom to live more meaningfully because their happiness not reliant on specialized knowledge, social status or material wealth.
In our modern age, human creations have obscured people's view of the natural world and disharmonies arise in the forms of conflicts over races, genders and nationality, as well as cultural and religious beliefs. Natural calamities also occur, including floods, deforestation and drought. These are the consequences of forgetting the Tao, the Way, the principle of nature that needs to be lived up in our life.
What is I-Kuan Tao?
I-Kuan Tao is a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading the Tao with the goal of creating a peaceful society and a harmonious world. In Chinese "I" means oneness while "Kuan" means unification. Tao is the Truth or the Way as shown in nature.
I-Kuan Tao members firmly believe it is essential to apply the Tao in their daily lives. Tao cultivation should start from oneself, and further expand to family and then to society. We believe our devotion and love for human beings will help them to find their true selves and the way to a meaningful life.
I-Kuan Tao members have grown rapidly across five continents to more than 60 countries. In order to spread the Tao, many I-Kuan Tao temples and holy houses have been established all over the world. Over the past 20 years, I-Kuan Tao temples have been established in many U.S. cities. The Way (The True Way of Nature, The Truth of the Universe) is preached in all the I-Kuan Tao temples and holy houses. Many Tao members are vegetarian in order to nurture the spirit, physical body and the environment simultaneously.
I-Kuan Tao honors the teachings of the five great world religions. The name of Almighty God used in I-Kuan Tao is Ming Ming Shang Di. We also use the name Lao Mu (Heavenly Mother) to refer to the benevolence of the Divine in cultivating the cosmos and nurturing all lives. Historically, Taoism refers to the Divine as Origin; Confucianism as Heaven or God; Buddhism refers the Nirvana as Buddha; Christianity as God, Lord or Yahweh; and Islam as Allah. Although different religions have different names for God, they all refer to the same God, the one Creator of the cosmos and the source of all souls.

Activities
- Activities -- The Bay Area is a merging pot containing different ethnic groups with diverse backgrounds. Due to the increasing number of the English-Speaking Tao members, we are offering an English-speaking Tao class specially designated for them. Besides the regular class, the temple offers various workshops focusing on the teachings of universal truth and learning how to apply them to our daily life.
- Other activities in the US and Canada -- With the migration of Tao families, Tao has expanded not only to other cities, but also to other states in the US and Canada. Smaller group of Tao families have started to organize on-line bilingual discussions on Small Stories with Moral, Six Patriarch's, and other Tao topics. You are more than welcome to contact the individual persons as provided for more information.

Who are We?
I-Kuan Tao Foundation of America -- The Chung Shu Temple is a place where we can learn, cultivate, and deliver teachings of the Tao. It is our most sincere hope that each of our followers will come to love and honor each other. Hopefully, this temple will become a spiritual sanctuary for more and more followers to cultivate and share their true realization of the Tao.
