Chapter 16

第十六章: 鬼神之為德 子曰：「鬼神之為德，其盛矣乎！視之而弗見，聽之而弗聞，體物而不可遺。使天下之人，齊明盛服，以承祭祀，洋洋乎如在其上，如在其左右。詩曰：『神之格思，不可度思，矧可射思！』夫微之顯，誠之不可掩，如此夫。」

Confucius said, "The virtue of the supernatural is abundant and unfathomable! We look for them, yet they cannot be seen; we listen to them, yet they cannot be heard; however, all sentient beings cannot separate from them. Because of them, everyone in the world show their sincerity by purifying their mind and don elegant clothing such as in a ritual. Then, like overflowing water, they are everywhere, surrounding us. A quote in the Book of Poetry stated that, 'The approaches of the spirits cannot be surmised, yet cannot be neglected.' Even though the manifestation cannot be seen, but sincerity can be felt!"
